Everytime we host a Holy Spirit Day at NCC I get incredibly excited! Here's why:
One of my big regrets in my Christian life is when I think back to days where I denied the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in my life. When I think back on it, my main motivation was my comfort level. Why would I want to engage in "weird" things!?
By God's grace I had an Acts 18:24-26 moment: "They took him aside and explained the ways of God more accurately." In those moments, with the loving help of brothers and sisters, I felt the loving and kind hand of God the Father drawing me closer to Himself. I not only knew verses like 2 Corinthians 3:17 which says, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." But I actually was experiencing the truth of this verse in my life. I felt the love of the Father in real and tangible ways. The word of God, which I hold so dear and in such high esteem, was alive because the author of the book had filled me and empowered me to not just understand truth, but to experience the reality of it.
At Pentecost Peter said to the great crowd, "For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." (Acts 2:39) I knew Jesus had called me to Himself, but with the fresh filling of the Holy Spirit I was experiencing the truth of it. Jesus had not only emptied me of my sin and shame, but he also filled me with the promise of His Holy Spirit.
The reason I get excited about Holy Spirit Days is because I get to introduce a dear Friend to my dear friends. For some they get filled with the Holy Spirit in powerful and fresh ways. For others, they continue on in a long meaningful relationship with their Helper. (John 14:16)
I can't wait! Please come and join us for a morning of teaching on and experiencing the Holy Spirit.
