After having been involved in numerous church plants in New England, Bo and Alexis Noonan felt God stirring their hearts to pioneer in a new way.
After much discussion with leaders, friends and family they moved with their eight month old to Tacoma, WA. Joining them was a team of six other adults and three other kids from St. Louis, MO, Kansas City, MO and Guadalajara, Mexico. All of them felt the call to build a re-producing, multi-cultural church. Right from the beginning was a desire to see this fledgling church plant play a role in reaching cities in the United States and beyond.
After landing in Tacoma it was very obvious that we did not have the resources to have a "Sunday meeting". With only eight adults and four kids we needed to do something different. The plan became simply this: PRAY! We prayed for all sorts of things, but mainly for people. We prayed for brave souls to join our pioneering group. And God answered! We went from meeting in a home, to an office, to an old Yoga studio downtown, to Central Lutheran Church, and currently we gather at Stadium High School. The last move gave us plenty of room for our growing kids work and for the adults meeting. By God's grace we have seen a regular flow of visitors come through the doors! As our Sunday meeting gets larger we intend to get smaller through our Community Groups. Our prayer remains, Lord Jesus, let your kingdom come!
One of the fun and yet sometimes challenging parts of having kids is naming them. When it came to naming our church we wanted a name that accurately communicated who we are and a name that would last. New Community communicates that we are a part of a new race of people on the earth called Christians. We have been raised to life in Jesus and we are reconciled to God and to other people groups. This is not a meeting; this is a people living radically for the extension of the Kingdom and for each other.
We can't say exactly what God will do through NCC, but we are excited to be on this journey with Him. We would love for you to be a part of this story as well. Please consider joining us on Sunday or joining one of our many Community Groups. We look forward to meeting you!+ back to top
